Crowdfunding to buy a plane ticket for Harry, who now, after the ruling of the Court of Rome, can legally come to Italy from Libya.
In 2018 Harry was the victim of the illegal pushback Asso Ventinove, discovered and reported by us at JLProject.
Thanks to the help of JLProject and the lawyers of Sciabaca & Oruka, Harry was able to sue the Italian government that ordered his illegal pushback to Libya and the Italian ship that carried it out.
Harry won the case!
As ordered by the judge, Harry has just received a visa for Italy from the Italian Embassy in Tripoli.
Now he needs to buy a plane ticket. You can contribute to the purchase by making a donation here:
NOTE: If more money arrives than needed, the surplus will be used to investigate other cases of illegal pushbacks to Libya.
Harry’s arrival in Italy
We expect to be able to have Harry arrive within a week or two. We will all go together to welcome him at Fiumicino airport and we will have a nice party. He deserves it. And we deserve it too, after so much work.
JLProject’s help in winning the case
In addition to having discovered the Asso Ventinove case, the JLProject in recent years has tracked down almost one hundred push-back victims and produced hundreds of pages of forensic evidence that have been used in the many lawsuits filed by the victims of this CRIME.
Pushing people back to Libya, let us remember, is a CRIME. The italian Supreme Court established this with a historic ruling on a similar case.
Thanks to the lawyers connected to the JLProject, the push-back victims of the Asso Ventinove case were able to file and win the lawsuits. The newspapers talked about it.
Harry is one of them.
The ruling
On 22 August 2024, the ordinary court of Rome – section for human rights and immigration – composed of a single judge in the person of judge Silvia Albano, issued a historic ruling on the merits that recognizes Harry’s right to apply for international protection in Italy and ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and for it the competent administrations, to issue all the acts deemed necessary to allow his immediate entry into the territory of the Italian State.
Here it is:
The Court:
Accepts the application and, consequently,
declares Mr. Harry’s right to apply for international protection in Italy and orders the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and through it the competent administrations, to issue all the acts deemed necessary to allow his immediate entry into the territory of the Italian State;
It took months of legal action to convince Italy to respect the sentence but today we succeeded and Harry has a visa. He can legally board a plane and travel normally. A right that in a just world all people should have.
