On the afternoon of October 16, a Frontex plane landed on a rubber dinghy carrying about a hundred people. It radioed its position to anyone listening (including Libyan militants).
On the night between October 16 and 17, 2023, the Mare Jonio was sent by MRCC Rome to search for the dinghy. But it was not found because it had already been captured by the Nalut 302 patrol boat, donated to the Libyan militias by the Meloni government.
