Almasri

JLProject is looking for people who were in Mitiga prison

JLProject is looking for the victims of Almasri and Al Buti, especially those who were imprisoned in the Mitiga concentration camp.

The trial at the International Criminal Court is taking place.

The ICC, let us remember, cannot hold trials if all the defendants are in absentia and Almasri was released and returned to his home in Libya by the Meloni government.

But six months later, Germany arrested Khaled Mohamed Ali El Hishri, known by the pseudonym “Al Buti”, Almasri’s right-hand man, and now there is a defendant present in Europe.

The trial of the other leaders of the criminal militia RADA will take place very soon. They are accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder, torture, and rape.

JLProject wants to bring humans into this human rights process

The most serious crimes were committed in the Mitiga prison, inside Tripoli airport, controlled by the Al-Radaa militia (Special Deterrence Forces) of Almasri and Al Buti. The victims are primarily migrants captured at sea (often with the coordination of the Italian government) and sold to the militia as slaves or slave soldiers.

JLProject wants to find as many victims as possible to help them in particular and human rights in general.

Survivors can:

  • testify at the criminal trial in The Hague
  • become a civil plaintiff
  • file a civil lawsuit against the European government that sold them as a slave to Almasri. JLProject will help gather evidence. The individual can ask the judge for a visa to the country responsible for their deportation and compensation.

Relatives of those killed by RADA can also play a role in the trial and in future civil cases.

For the Al Buti trial, we are primarily seeking individuals who were detained in Mitiga between May 1, 2014, and June 30, 2020.
